Troop 813 in Dubai, UAE, tells us they are making plans for a Middle East camporee to be held in Dubai in March 2007. All Direct Service units in our Arab district have been invited to attend.
We know that most of our troops, packs, and crews are doing service projects but are not reporting them on the BSA's Good Turn for America Web site. Our units should report all service projects they are involved in, including all Eagle projects. In order to report your service projects, you will need your unit ID. Contact Terry Meyers for your unit's ID number.
Do you know of someone who gives their all for Scouting? We want to know! Direct Service is seeking nominations for both the Silver Beaver and District Award of Merit so that we can recognize our leaders that have made a difference. Nomination forms for both awards are available in the Resources section of our Web site, www.directservicebsa.org.
Silver Beaver Award - The Boy Scouts of America, acting through the National Court of Honor, may award the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth. The award is made for noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth by registered adult Scouters.
Written nominations for the Silver Beaver Award should be submitted to the Direct Service administrator. In each case, the information should be factual and build a record for the individual being nominated. Nominations will be reviewed in February and October each year. Service and achievement must be beyond the ordinary routine. Expected standards of service will not suffice.
District Award of Merit - Direct Service may confer the District Award of Merit to its adult Scouters for noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth within a district territory. It may be made each year.
Written nominations for the District Award of Merit should be submitted to Direct Service. In each case, the information should be factual and build a record for the individual being nominated for the District Award of Merit. Nominations should be received no later than May 1 of each year. Service and achievement must be beyond the ordinary routine. Expected standards of service will not suffice.
Colin Helmer, Scoutmaster of Troop 818 located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, invites you to visit the troop's new Web site, http://www.boysc.funtigo.com. Why not take a few minutes to see what your fellow Direct Service Scouts are up to?
Does your unit have its own Web site? We would be happy to publish it in a future newsletter - just drop a note to Terry Meyers at tmeyers@netbsa.org.
It's time for the following units to renew their charters. Renewal kits have already been mailed out. If your unit is due to renew and you have not received it, please contact Terry Meyers.

The 21st World Scout Jamboree will be hosted by the Scout Association of the United Kingdom from July 27 until August 8, 2007. Direct Service Scouts departing for the jamboree from outside the United States may meet up with their contingents as they arrive in London. The fee for these Scouts will be $3,125.00. Those interested in attending should apply soon as we have been allotted only a few spots. Final selection of members applying will be done by the Southern Region. Additional information and applications for both adult and Scouts is available at www.scouting.org/international.
As announced last December, the Direct Service Committee decided to phase out the production of our country specific shoulder patches and go to one universal emblem. The new patch, shown at the top of the page, is available to registered Direct Service members only. The cost is $4.00 apiece and may be ordered through Terry Meyers.
We still have a number of the country specific patches in stock. Still available at $3.00 each are csp's for the following countries: Egypt, Guatemala, Indonesia, Kenya, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela.
